I recently purchased a new in the box romanian ak47 from a gun show. After cleaning and cking the gun out, i headed to the range and found that i could only get a 4 inch group at 100 yards. Is this the best that this type of gun will do?? Anyone out there with one of these guns that can offer any advise?? thnks

I have found the problem with them is the sights. Replace the sights with the peep sights and it will improve some.

Jeenyes, i installed a scope, and it didnt help much. You really think that the peep sight will be better?? If so, who can i get the peep sight from and is it something that i will have to have a gunsmith do or can i do it myself. Thanks

armydude,What kind of accuracy were you expecting? Generally speaking, the AK is only designed to hit a man sized target out to about a 300 meter maximum distance, so I doubt you'll get much better ... but you can always try!Different ammo will usually group better or worse so you may try a few different brands. Is the scope a side mount or a replacement "top cover" type mount? If its the latter, a 4" group is durn good.

? otherwise, you'll find an excuse.

Look in shotgun news, don't remember the ad or seller. They replace the rear sight.

The AK is designed for combat.Research has shown that on the battlefield your ordinary foot soldier does not typically see or engage targets in excess of 200 meters (this can vary). The "accuracy" you describe is consistant with the design of the rifle. It does the job it needs to do.

Your sights are fine and most likely, so is the weapon. I've fired many AK's and, as far as the standard stamped receivers go, a 3-4 inch group "ain't dat bad". To fine tune what you have though, install a Buffer Technology recoil buffer and experiment with various mfg. of ammo. I found the Russian Barnaul ammo to be more consistant than most other import stuff, but if you handload or are willing to pay the price, U.S. ammo will out shoot most any import stuff. Don't forget your ability to shoot consistantly also is a must, so use sandbags, or something to sturdy you as you experiment. I have had alot of AK's and the Romainian model w/ the Drag stock is my favorite. Later

i would say that a 4" group at 100 yards with a reproduction ak is damn good.....mine gets about 6-7"
