Am I paying a good price?

I got a guy who wants to sell me a Romanian AK-47 SAR-3 in .223 NIB for $339.Comes with 1-30 rounder, a 10 rounder, scope rail, sling, and papers. The guy says he paid $430 for it but just realized he cant own it legally in Maryland till he is 21 (he is 19), so he needs to move it quick and is willing to discount. He even says he's willing to pay for the shipping and handling and the insurance.I'm no expert on online gun buying, but the story seems rather odd, and the discount too good to be true. I also dont know how much different an AK in .223 is going to feel over a regular 7.65 Russian AK.So, am I getting a steal, or is there something I should know here that I dont?

It does sound like a good deal, but your right, I would be kinda leary on this deal to send any money prior to getting my hands on the gun! If possible I'd try to arrange for a face to face transaction. Does he have a rating or grade on his prior transactions that you could check? BTW the Russian AK-47 you refered to is a 7.62 by 39mm, not 7.65. Good luck w/ this deal!

    1. Price is a little steep.2. If he says he paid $430 for it he is either stupid or BS'ing you.3. Long Rifles can be legally owned by anyone 18 years of age or older. I don't know whether this gun is legal in Maryland however.4. If you get an Ak get the Sar 1 in 7.62x39. If you want a weapon that shoots 223, get an Ar(It will dance circles around an Ak at any distance).Buyer Beware...He is either telling you lies, or isn't "all together", in any case... be careful with your money, and don't make any side deals. If the seller splits with your money and you didn't win on auction, gun broker can't do crap.

The Federal Arms 2001 catalog has it listed with all acc. you mention + cleaning kit for $299. Their no. is 763-780-8780 if you want to check on availability. Almost no recoil compared to 7.65.

Here in Maryland, all AK-47 variations are considered "regulated firearms". They may only be transferred according to the same regs as handguns: an application to purchase must be approved by the State Police, you must be 21, etc., etc.The story doesn't sound right to me. He cannot sell a gun that he cannot legally possess. It's possible that a parent bought the gun for him, but then that parent would have to be the one actually selling it.Neal

After seeing oneshy's post I am going to check into that and see if any are available. Sounds like a great price so thanks oneshy. Without knowing about oneshy's great info, I would say that the price is on the money and is average going rate. Pass on buying it from the guy you mentioned but the price seems fair.

youngsguns is selling them for 329 dollars here on GB. Actually, I haven't seen them for much less than that even on the auction site. Most gun stores that I've been to over the years sell them for upwards of 350 - 450 depending on condition and manufacturer. However, most AK-47's have american-made parts inside of them which are a bit softer than the original guts of the gun.

Check the gun stores in your area. There are at least three dealers in the Phoenix area that sell for $329.00 plus tax. That ends up being almost as good a deal as $299.00 plus shipping and transfer fee.
