Am interested in mounting a Leupold Vari-XIII 3.5-10X40 or 4.5-14X40 scope on my Colt AR-15 (model 6601 - permanent carry handle). My question is - what kind of mount/rings would be the best to use and where do I buy them? THANKS

Ask the guys at AR15.com, they know your gun inside and out.

Stick with the name. Colt makes a mount. A little more priecy than some, but you already showed that you want the best.

COLT! You are going to shoot a COLT!Uh, I thought they were just for collecting since they don't make them for the general public anymore ... Remember? Didn't they bend over for the Klinton Administration and cut off sales to civilians in hopes of getting government contracts? Colt rates right up there with Smith & Wesson and Ruger in my book ... traitors, the lot of them!

Kimber, Whaattt?? are you talking about?! Colt still sells its firearms. Smith&Wesson is under new ownership, American ownership, so should no longer be the target of anyone, they are trying. As for Ruger, I have never heard of Ruger doing anything, saying anything, etc. to do anything close to giving in to any demands, demands of the government, mothers with an attitude, or a dumba$$ of any kind, if I am wrong, please educate me, please. By the way, this conversation has had nothing to do with the original posters question, I know that, but I got a little irritated, sorry.

The 10 round mag limit was the brainchild of Ruger.Colt was the first to give in to the government in '89 by putting in sear blocks and removing the Bayonet lugs ... this was well before the 94 ban, the 89 ban had nothing to do with US made firearms. I could be mistaken but I beleive Colt quit manufacturing AR, 1911, 1991A1 for the public in 98 ... now with the Bush adminmistration and not getting the "BIG" contracts (I think Bushmaster won the AR bid) they have repealed their position on civilian sales.Smith & Wesson, even now that their American owned is still honoring the contract ... it seems Josey1 posted something a month or two ago that they were even furthering their agreements ...I'm just going from memory on articals & posts I've read over the last few years ...

We seem to have strayed from the original question. The scope designed for this rifle is the Colt Model #W1302, a 4x scope that attaches without tools or special mount. That would be my choice.Neal
