I just bought a 1911 with no markings on theslide, the ss# tells me it was made in 1943Remington Rand. Did they make slides withno lettering at all on them ?

I asked the same question back in 1965 when I received a .45 made by Remington Rand. I bought it through the NRA for $14.00 in one of their offers to sell surplus firearms to members. The pistol I received had little more then the manufacturers name, Remington Rand and a S/N. I wrote a letter to the DCM. The answer I received was that during the war, shortcuts were taken to get firearms made and into the war. I didn't question it because it sounded reasonable at the time.

The answer is, it's highly unlikely. What other markings are on the gun? Does it have inspectors initials and the ordinance acceptance seal? Are they burnished? Most importantly, what did you pay for this gun? If it's < $500, the fact that it's probably a parts gun really shouldn't matter.Neal
