hi

i am putting a scope on a new rifle.a friend said to use high mounts.now i always mount my scopes as close to the barrel as i can get.always thought that would be more acurate.Listening to my friend i was curious if it matters?Thinking about triing it but it does not seem like it would be beneficial to me.woundering what othere people think. thanks for the time.

Got a really great deal on a New England Handi Rifle in .308. It had a Simmons scope on it with a set of see through mounts. Real akward to see through the scope with that mount. Want to mount a Weaver K4 on it. Suggestions as to a good mounting system. Keep in mind I'll need clearance for the hammer.

By the way.......what can I expect to pay for a 20 guage shot gun barrel for it?

I purchased a Rem. 700 and it came with scope mounts. Does anyone use these or is it a recommended practice that I just go out and purchase better ones?

I just mounted a 3x9-50 scope on a Optima elite with Belgarra barrel. My guestion is how close is too close for the scope bell and barrel clearance? It clears the barrel by 1/16".[:D]

I have a Browning (Japan) 1885 rifle with 24" half octagon barrel.
The receiver and barrel are factory drilled & tapped for mounting
    a scope.
Can anyone tell me which bases and/or mounts will fit this rifle.
I haven't been able to find information specific to this rifle.
Thanks for any help or suggestions on this !

I need advice. I have a scope mounted on a Remington MOdel 700 that is shooting at least 8 inches high at 25 yds with the elevation cranked all the way down. I am using Luepold bases and medium height rings, would changing to low mount Luepold rings bring down the point of impact enough to make it useableat say 100 yds?? I am still getting very tight groupings, just way too high

New to mounting a scope. I ordered a set of leupold rings and bases and they don't fit, the rings are dovetail and the bases are standard which leads me to my question. Which is better, the dovetail with no windage base adjustment or the standard with the windage base adjustment. I am mounting a leupold scope and leupold says that their scopes have enough built in adjustment that you don't need the base windage adjustment. Any commments.

It should work fine, unless you have one that is off for some reason, which is not that common. The bases are made to fit particular rifles, and you use high, medium or low rings depending upon the scope you want to use.BUT, you cannot buy just any bases and rings and fit them to every rifle you own. There is some over lap, for example bases for large ring Mausers will fit the old Harrington and Richardson 300 Ultra, but even then there are two different configurations of the screw holes for the rear base.Consider putting Talley bases and rings on, no stronger rings made. Uhh,..you are not talking about M-70 bases fitting M-700 rifle ,and visa versa..are ya?Cause that wont work! But if you are talking about all Weaver two piece bases for M-700 fitting all M-700s..that`s different..218

for 218beekeep,yes, i guess this is what i mean, if i buy, lets say weaver bases for an remington 700,will the same bases fit a winchester 70, or are the screw holes in different locations that the bases will not line up.

They will not fit. You need to buy bases for different model of rifle. There are a few exceptions as I noted above. The Styer Mod. 96 SBS uses the same bases as the Browning A-bolt rifles. The rings generally have a list telling which rifles they fit if you are looking at over-the-counter types. High end bases and rings like Conotrol or Talley do not, but the folks you order from can tell you which rifles. besides the one you are fitting, the rings will work on.
