I'm thinking of buying an FN-49 Belgium mfg. 30-06 in VG cond. It was made for Luxemburg and is marked with an "A" on the receiver. The stock doesn't match and has a one and a half inch crack at the rear receiver/pistol grip area, but looks very nice. Can any of you experts out there give me an approx. value on this one? Thank You

The gun you have was made for the belgium military, AL is the marking for the Lux. model, I would estimate the value to be $375-450 range.

The 30-06 is usually worth noteably more than the more common 8mm FN49's, but the cracked stock is what is going to hurt the value of the one you describe. If it were all matching and the stock was not cracked, you'd be looking at a $495-600 gun, some times more, depending on your local market. The 8mm FN49's used to be a lot more common than they are today. At one time they could be had under $200. Today, depending on their condition, they will run from $350-500 or more. Unfortunately FN49 stocks are not the easiest thing to find. So the one you describe may be hard to replace. Depending on the crack, they sometimes can be repaired. I own several FN49's myself, they are a very well made, fun gun to shoot. I hope this helps.

As far as stocks go - you might like to look at the post under the want-ads section - "are fn49 stocks available" - dated 12-03-11:03
