I assume you mean the serial number is SM29XXX, right? Any Service Ace should have the SM prefix. These guns are really not scarce, but seem to be appreciating in value fairly rapidly. I would estimate the value of your pistol to be $700-$900, depending on condition and market, but I have seen some Colts go on the auction site recently for much more than I expected. The Service Ace is a great pistol and fun to shoot. Enjoy.

thanks, and yes it is an sm prefix. the gun appears to be unfired. will shooting it decrease its value? thank you so much for your help. i have been collecting colts and small bore sxs's for some time, but I haven't really ever sold any of my collection. However, money is just a bit tight right now, and I may have to liquidate a few of my pieces. I also have a really nice pre64 Win collection that I would like to ask you about. 88's, 97's, 73's, 87's, 100,s, et. al. My email address is jfergusn@bellsouth.net. Also, I have an L.C.Smith small bore collection that I may get rid of. Furthermore, from researching my win. 88's and 100's in the 284 cal. seems to be a prized collector piece. any thoughts?thanks again,Jay

Shooting your SM will decrease its value, but I suspect it has already been shot so if no damage is done to the exterior finish, the affect on value will be very small.I am acquainted with Winchesters, but not enough to give you solid values. If you want to sell them, put them on the auction site with good descriptions and pictures and see what they bring. (A reserve or adequate opening bid will protect you from a lack of interest.) Perhaps there are Winchester collectors on these boards who would be willing to help you.As far as the small gauge side-by-sides, again I am aware in a general way, but not enough to give you solid values. The premium double market is a small one, and it takes a coming together of the proper buyer and seller for each piece. Either try the auction site, or go to a premium collector show and check out similar pieces. Any double collectors here who can help?
