Which is better chrome lined or non chrome lined barrels? Is it true Colt no longer chrome lines their barrels in the AR15? If so is this a disadvantage? Also, what is your opinion on the stainless barrel that Colt makes?

Go for the chrome lined(plated) or stainless barrels over chrome moly or other steel barrels because of higher wear resistance, rust resistance and lower maintenance.Manufacturers would like to promote unplated barrels to the civilian market because of manufacturing difficulties and the higher cost of bore plating. Dont go for it.

Though I am a chrome lined barrel fan for the wear and tear reasons listed above, and used this as part of my decision to get an M1-A Standard instead of one of their Match models, from what I've read from various manufacturers, their Match models usually omit the chrome lining. I always weighed it as an improvement in accuracy or better wear issue, and opted for better wear, with slightly bigger groups.

Give me a break, Maintenance. Okay you dont ever have to clean a chrome bore. Sure you dont. 5 minutes to clean unlined, better accuracy. I mean how dirty can it get before it looses its accuracy or function. Lets just say a whole lot.

I haven't heard of any company manufacturing AR15 barrels that aren't chromelined, unless they are stainless or chromoly barrels themselves...More than likely whatever AR you get will be chrome lined.Chrome lined barrels just last longer, thats all... The rifle lands don't wear as fast. Most AR-15 or military type rifles will have chrome lined barrels do to this fact of longer life, with the exception of older military rifles like the M1 Garand. The chrome lining isn't like chrome plating, like you'd see on the outside of the gun. It's more like an industrial hard chroming.

Many Colt barrels are not chromlined any more. They do still have chrome chambers.Only Bushmaster chromes all their barrels.Chrome is an extra cost option at ALL the other mfgrs and some do not offer it at all.cpermd
