Does anybody know anthing about how good a pistol Llama makes? I'm looking for a good .40 cal. semi-auto. and so far for the price,Ruger is coming up #1. I saw a Llama on GB and the price wasn't too bad. I own a Ruger 9mm,but I thought I might swirch my brand for a .40 cal. if the gun was woth it.Thanks.

Llamas are basically a sound pistol, but often require a little tinkering to make them live up to their potential--such as ramp and throat polishing, etc. Of the two choices named, I'd stick with Ruger. Of course there are many other .40s to choose from, but as you've noted the prices rise dramatically. S&W 4006 is good, Glock 22 is good, Para-Ordnance is good.

I hear mixed feelings about the Ruger in 40 S&W. Ruger makes an excellent 9mm and I've never heard complaints about the 9. The 40 is anoter story. I don't have much experience with S&W semi-autos so I can't give you 1st hand accounts, but I don't hear good things from previous GB threads. If you want a good 40cal for a decent price, you might want to consider a used Glock 22. I've seen them for sale for about $360 on GB. I bought one for 355 with trijicons and mine functions flawlessly. I admit, I love my Ruger P89 and will never sell, but for the balance, feel, and smooth recoil, you can't beat the G22

I'm not sure what price range you are looking in, but I can tell you that I am 100% satasfied with my SIG 226 in 40 S&W. Fit's great, not a single failure of any kind (only about 1500 rounds so far).

Llama is not a "Duty" worthy auto, so I would not consider it as a weapon I would carry. You may be better off sticking to the more mainstream, GLock, SIg, Beretta, ect.

After testing pistols for several years, my favorite is the K or MK Kahr 40Its' a heavy steel small double action only pistol, but it is a fantastic gun. Accurate and dependable, and small enough to easily conceal. You could probably pick one up at a gun show for 400 or 450.The trigger pull is excellent.Eric

Go with the Ruger. I promise you will never regret it. Best gun on the planet for the money bar none. Common sense tells you that you get what you pay for but of the two guns you mentioned Ruger wins by a long shot. Keep it nice and clean and odds are it will never jam, not even once.

If you buy the Ruger, buy USED. Do not give money to the company that brought us the 10-round magazine ban!You COULD buy a Glock 22, 23, 24, 27, or 35 though (depending on your intended use--full size, compact, long slide, sub-compact, competition, respectively.) Cost you maybe $100-$150 more than the Ruger, but worth it.

I would try a used Taurus PT-100. Very nice shooting gun based on the Berretta design. I also like the Berretta 96. RG
