I was interested in getting one of these in .38 for concealed carry. Anyone have feedback on these?

They look good on the taurus website, was just getting opinions if you have had experience with this series or any thoughts. Mainly looking at the Tracker model 627, 66, 608. So far leaning to the trackeer 627.

I had a Taurus .357 snubbie at one time. It had a ported barrel and it was a pleasure to shoot. I had to sell it before moving to New York because I didn't have a NY pistol permit. If you are looking at a .38 for concealed carry, Taurus is a good way to go but I would get a .357. That way, you can use .38, .38 +P and .357 loads. It just seems more versatile that way. I've never had to use their customer service department because I didn't have any problems with mine. However, there is a little secret about getting results from Taurus. It requires a little effort but anyone that has had any problems with their customer service department, email me at idsman75@peoplepc.com

Hey IDSMAN, thanks for the reply. The one I was looking at was on GB item #2991255.If I could get exactly like this (same finish, same size, ported, etc) only in 357 I would. I think the 617 is the equivalent, but I am not sure. Do you know what the finish is called on this item? Also, I've seen the 617 with a 7-shot capacity. Is that a typo or am i reading that right?

I have a taurus mod. 85, i had a problem with with it not rotating after about 15 rounds but they stood behind their warranty. i would recommend it for concealed carry.

I just photographed a story on the new Taurus CIA line. They're the "hammerless" snub nose .38 and .357. We (the writer and I) sent a great deal of rounds through each and were pleased with the results. It's accurate, easy to draw, and easy to conceal. I ended up buying the test gun (.357).You wanna see a real hoot? Check out the .357 Tracker by Taurus. Anyone who's shot one knows what I mean. Superlight, ported, wonderful grip, and a natural pointer.christian

We have a 2" SS Taurus that the better half keeps for defense. Works well for her and I like it to. The trigger could use a little smoothing, but it is tight and comfortable to shoot.

Thanks for the feedback everybody. Here's an update for ya. The Taurus that I actually wanted was a 357, 2", exposed hammer, titanium, with gray finish. Just like the one in GB Auction # 2991255, only 357. Well, I went to my local shop and asked about it. They tell me that it IS a Taurus 617 and Taurus has NOT come out with a gray finish model. They only have the Metallic Blue so far. They MIGHT start making them in a few months. Sigh. I want one now!

They make a "shadow gray" finish on their titanium Model 617. I sent you an e-mail last night about it with some other info when the site was really slow. There are other color combos, too.

I once owned a 617. It was a very smooth gun. You won't be disappointed. a slight glint from a very tiny portion of the frame was exposed one evening (on purpose) and sent a stalker packing.

Several years ago I bought the wife a Taurus model 85CH, .38 special. They call it a concealed hammer but it's really just a spurless hammer. I think it's a well-made piece. She's shot it a lot and had no trouble with it at all. I feel completely comfortable for her to pack it as a purse gun.

Alright, it's settled. I'm getting one. One quick question though... Does having an exposed hammer affect the safety of carrying concealed? Don't wanna shot my foot by accident if I'm scratching an itch...

They won't go off until you pull the trigger.

Don't worry about the gun going off, as long as you have a good carry system. If the pistol is held in a secure position, there's no real threat of it "going off". There are so many great holsters for this type of gun. Among the ones I'm happy to recommend are the: Milt Sparks pocket holster, Kramer pocket holster, Desantis ankle holster.... ah the list could go on, but first decide how you want to carry it.christian
