Which .45?

I have a couple small frame .45's for personal defense (1 is a Colt Defender). I am looking for a large frame .45 for target work - something that will hold a tight group at least out to 25 yards. Just wondering if anyone had any input into what I should look for - I've been out of the gun buying circle for almost a year, and don't really know what is out there right now. Thanks

    I'll open my mouth and insert foot... Kimber & Springfield enjoy good reputations, but ya probably knew that. My father-in-law and I have been discussing my next purchase (I'm salivating over the Defender). For target he says its all in where you want to spend your money- buy normal and invest in parts and work or buy whats advertised as a target gun. Being a former commander of the US Army marksmanship team, he choose a Colt standard .45 and invested in barrel, trigger and sights. He makes it shoot a tight group at 25 yrd (the *). See my post under "Colt Defender" I'm eager for your opinion.

    I too own a Defender and I love it. For what you want its hard to beat a GoldCup or Kimber.

    I've looked at the Kimber's and they sure look nice. I've been affraid to fire one yet - since I know as soon as I do I'll want to buy one. What about the Sig P226 Sport?

    I must humbly agree with master Lowrider, that you must not over look the para ordnance line. I own a P 14, and with a few goodies, it is the one of the sweetest of my .45's. I also have a series 70 combat commander, steel frame, and an HK USP .45 which is also a fine piece of machinery. In fact rumor is the WSP is considering the HK as their next duty weapon. Take your time try a couple out if you can, and pick the one that feels best to you. Good luck.
