i recently purchased a mossberg-no.m4 4power scope. the front lens is recessed in about 3 inches from the front of the scope. is this normal or is it missing a lens? also what gun were these intended to fit?

i recently acquired a mossberg m4c scope it seems to be in very good shape, it has a 3/4in tube and is about 14in long with a fine crosshair reticule--does anyone have any info on this scope, and what kind of rifle was it used on and maybe the value? any info would be helpful, thanks

Built between 1951 and 1965, it came in the No. 2 mount. 4x magnification, FOV= 27ft at 100 yd., 2.0 inch eye relief, 14.5" long, value without mount $30-70 depending upon condition, with mount add $10. Not one of the more intersting or valuable of the scopes from the Mossburg line, but should be as good as a Weaver of the same era if you intend to mount it.
