Shooting CANE

My Dad passed away and left me a working Silver Handle, black pie staff shooting cane. I don't know anything about guns except .22cal target shooting and am told it's worth alot. Does anyone have any info on an item like this? I thinks it's a .22cal rim fire, single shot. The 'trigger', secrect button, is well hidden in the silver handle, almost invisible. It's a pretty cool piece, but I would like to sell it if it's worth what I'm told.Bruce

    Sorry but the joke escapes me. Do you mean because it would be considered a concealed weapon or something? Guns in general, are quite legal to own here in South Carolina.

    It seems the Feds have a real problem with guns that are made to look like something else. Pen guns for instance.Your cane gun, if properly registered, is an "Any Other Weapon," and as such, is subject to only a $5.00 transfer fee. If it is not registered, it is probably contraband.There were some versions of the cane gun made in recent years, but they were blackpowder guns, using no fixed ammunition, and so were not firearms.Captain Kirk might know if the AGE of this device makes any difference. Suppose it was made prior to 1898? Would it then be a firearm or not?

    There are 3 Cane guns listed by ATF as C&RIn Sec IV (still under NFA)of the C&R list a .32 a .38 centerfire and a 410.So a cane gun can be owned. Now it's just a matter if your's can be accepted as a C&R and you would have to ask ATF for a determination.Cane gun history link: http://www.remingtonsociety.com/Canes.htm
