I am in the market for a new handgun, I have been looking at the hk usp compact, the walther p99, the sig 2340 pro and the, "ugly", glock 22 and 23. Having never fired any of the above and being able to find very little concerning the first thee, I am having a hard time making a decision. I have been told by a couple of people to avoid the sig pro, but was not given any real reasons why, I was told by one person that the walther was a good choice but that wasnt enouph to satisfy me. Does anyone know of a web sight that has info on torture tests or comparisons between these firearms. I was at first willing to buy any one of the above based on reputation now im not sure, I guess I just want the best bang for my buck. If anyone has any feedback it would be much appreciated, thanks

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

IMHO, the best bang for the buck is the Glock.
Because it goes bang when you pull the trigger.
Speaking of which, is the SAME each time you
pull it. As far as ugly, it works, who cares.
If you want pretty, get a Wilson, Kimber, or
something else that will cost 3 times as much.
    Well anyway you ask.

I will say this, i shot a glock for the first time yesturday , they are nice but i cant get past the idea of shooting some thing made out of plastic, but to be fair it did function flawlessly which says more than the smith 5906 that i started with

You will be well served with any of the firearms you listed. I own both an HK USP .40 Compact and a Glock 23. I really like both of them, but I prefer the G23 overall because it fits my hand better.
The only way to make a rational choice here is to find a friend with one or rent one at a range. Good luck with your choice...

"I hear, "glock, glock, glock", but is there anyone who has shot the others, HK, Sig 2340 or Walther and still says, "GLOCK", with that hazed over look in there eyes, lol. Surely somebody must have some experience with the others.

When looking for a concealed carry or mini-carry pistol I have neer considered the Glock. Its looks and the plastic thing prevented me from even considering it. But now, after handling them, talking with people who swear by their combination of accuracy and reliability, I am thinking I have been foolish. I am reconsidering a pistol that has been so tested and always proved itself that I believe it has proven itself.

As another poster noted, all your choices are good. If you have a chance to try them, that would be the best bet. It would give you a chance to determine which one feels the best in your hands and so forth. The rest can be visceral. We like something just because the way it looks. I never considered Sig because I always thought they looked kind of chunky. Guess what? I tried on recently and loved it so much I ordered one.

    For JB Hooks,

The quote you use, from The Shootist, I use in my high school government classes. I use it as a tool to get the kids talking about the Founding Father's concept of a government that left us alone to regulate our own affairs and the current concept of government which regulates almost every aspect of our life. As you can imagine, I am one of the few teachers who uses JB Hook's philosophy in the classroom. I even have him on tests and quizzes!

    4GodandCountry,

Is your handle a reference to your religious and patriotic beliefs? I was just wondering because I was on a different pro-gun website and made a comment about my faith and some of the other posters went nuts.

I have a Glock 21(full size .45acp) & Glock 30(compact .45acp) and they are good reliable shooters ... I also have the HK Match & Tactical models ... worlds of difference and also great shooters.

Even though the HK's are polymer framed like the Glock, the HK feels much more substancial. The HK's have a "real" hammer & safety, decocker, ambidextrous mag release, adjustable sights, easy to operate slide stop and much better trigger out of the box ... none of which you'll find standard on a Glock ... but its also 1/3 - 1/2 more money. (BTW, HK was the first to develop a Polymer framed pistol and has much more R&D than Glock)

The Glock is cheaper to get into initally and has a lot more accessories avaiable, namely; various style sights, easier to operate slide stop, over-sized mag release and reduced pull trigger springs and other stuff I'm sure I'm forgetting.

Both are great guns, but given the choice (and $$$ not a factor) I would go with the HK ... everytime, handsdown! I don't have any experiance with the Walther P99 or the Sig 2340 Pro, so I can't speak for them.

Go with the Glock...you won't like it the first day because the trigger takes some getting used to, but after a couple hundred rounds of practice you won't be able to rave loud enough. It's a very simplistic gun with and very reliable.

I have a Glock 32 and like it alot. It goes bang first time every time. I purchased a ss .40 barrel for it and now I have 2 guns in one. I do not worry about it in any condition. Peace of mind is a very good thing. The others you have mentioned are fine guns and you would do well with any of them. Which one fits your hand the best? Which one gives you peace of mind. Then buy that one. My 2 cents

If price is not the issue, you should seriously look at the metal framed SIG's. Like the 226 and the 229 etc. Other than that, I would recommend the HK USP. They are very well designed and very accuarate as well. I prefer the HK due to the visable hammer, and side mounted safety. Just a preference, but after all, it is an HK!!! I will never sell my HK's or my SIG's. All others, well time will tell. The Sig Pro supposedly has a nasty recoil. I don't know for myself, but I have heard several accounts stating the same thing about them. They are no doubt a great gun due to their being a SIG, but the metal frame SIGS are beyond reproach.

    When in doubt...empty the magazine!!

NOTPARS , Yes, my handle does reflect my religious belief that there is a god and yes I do consider myself to be a patriot. And to those who would go nuts about that, I feel truly sorry for them, how empty their lives must feel without God.

    Back to Discussion,

I think Ive ruled out the sig 2340, I went to a local shop at lunch and its got alot of slop in the slide, it just doesn't feel as well made as the others to me.

Most indoor ranges have various different guns you can rent and tryout. I would not go to a glock or any other untill I had a chance to shoot it. BTW, I have heard nothing but good about the USP (other than the cost)

I have a HK USP Compact 45, Glock 32 and had a Walther P-99. All of them are great guns. Each one has its own area of exceptional features. Ergonomics=P99, Accuracy=HK, Rugged=Glock. Each one also has its areas of fault. P99=trigger, HK=price, Glock=asthetics.

Personal opinion on the SigPro is not high. I think it is a very UN-Siglike Sig. Top heavy with a very high bore axis. The only Sig that I have always kept is a 225.

All of your choices are good. Go with the one that feels the best to you and I don't think you can go wrong.

This is a personal choice. The only way you will know for sure is to shoot each one and see what feels good to you.

Of the three, I personally prefer the HK. Plus one advantage is the ability to have the action setup the way you like; SA, DAO, etc.

The only way to know is try all three and choose.
