Help! recently purchased a model 70 .270 cal used... at what i thought was a bargin.. i thought this at the time.. come to find out the safety is in the fire postion and will not budge. tried to follow the instructions in a book i have on how to disassemble the bolt..
Right! read somewhere that you can field strip a model 70 bolt..
Yah! Right! if you take a vise or vise grips into the field with
you. Push the little pin in and unscrew this.. Yah! Right again..
anyhow .. i have the guts out of the bolt body or sleeve and i'm trying to get the safety removed..instructions mention to use a small
drift punch and tap the pin to the inside of the bolt sleeve and then rotate the safety and off it'll come.. Right .I have been tapping on a small pin, about the size of a small brad nail. nothing happens..
all i managed in doing was bending my drift punch..
come on guys i need help here.. lots of help.. God do i need help..
Damn gun anyway...

thanks.. with your inspiration i tackled it again and after getting the firing pin and spring off i tapped out the pin that holds the end cap ( i don't know if that is the proper name for it) on at the very rear of the bolt.. the pin was bent in a U shape, it appears if someone replace the original with a small 4 penny nail chrome colored..
with the pin out the safety works like a charm.. need to order another pin and hope i get it back together again.
