Savage model 99 what?

I have a savage model 99 in 300 savage. I see there is a wide range of prices for these rifles on gunbroker. One lists a model 99 300 in .300 savage. How do you know what is what or why one is worth so much more than the others? Mine doesn't even say model 99 on it. I was told when I got it that is was a model 99. It says Savage Arms, Ithaca N.Y. on one side of the barrel, and .300 savage with an sp circled after it, on the other side of the barrel. Other than a serial number and a number three under the receiver, there is no markings. It has the brass round counter and a williams plug where the rear sights would be. Just curious.

Thom, send me a couple of pictures and the serial # minus the last 3 digits, example 123xxx, I have a book just on Savage 99's. I'll look it up for you.
