romaian .22 rifle

der gerbirsjager, i read on another post that you have 2 of these rifles, i bought 10 of them at 39.95 last year, gave my sons-sons in laws one each,daughters to, any way kept 2for myself, hows the trigers on your rifles mine are pretty soft but cant see any way to make them break any sharper. wht do you think.

    You, Sir, obviously recognized a good bargain! I used to teach Hunter Ed, which is a prerequisite here in Oregon before obtaining a first hunting license; and bought mine to go along with four Russian .22's I had purchased several years earlier for student use. I disassembled and cleaned them up before putting them into service, but have really never shot them much myself. I shall disassemble one this afternoon and look at the trigger, and then get back to you on this forum.

    I spent most of the afternoon doing a trigger job on my two rifles, and the consensus of opinion in the shop is that they are markedly improved. I made a drawing of the critical parts and indicated where to polish and stone, and if you will e-mail your U.S.P.O. address to ccnorth@teleport.com I'll be happy to send you instructions on how to duplicate my effort. These triggers have quite a bit of travel before they begin the let off. I believe that this could also be greatly reduced (and have a couple of ideas on how it could be done), but I did not work on that aspect of the problem. Once you take up the slack though, you'll find the let off to be much improved.

    If you feel generous I would like a copy of your instructions for the trigger work on the Romanian 22LR rifle. I just received one and will take it to the range to sight in after a good cleaning. This will get me back into rifles after many years being away. My gunsmith/FFL transfer guy teaches kids in Maryland and uses several Romanians.

    I like your alias, says a lot about another place and perhaps another time. Ich bin Schuhplattler, Vortanzer, Tanzmeister and I like the sounds of those tags in German better than in English. My next trip to Germany and Austria and perhaps the Sudtirol will include visits to whatever arms makers will let me in and whatever arms museums are open during the day. I'll spend the evenings drinking and dancing.
