I am looking for a long range scope 6 to 24 power. Is there an advantage to one or the other of these. Anybody own either one please comment on it.

Burris or Leupold. Tough decision, as both are just about the best. I'd have to give the nod to the Leupold, but would feel O.K. with either. A customer of mine ordered a Tasco World Class Plus 6-24x50 last summer and so far is very satisfied. Cost a lot less, and the optics seem very clear.

Best bang for the buck is a Leupold 6 x 18 VX-II in 40 or 50 mm objective. Multi-coated optics, 1/4 min. click adjustments, lifetime warranty and less $ than Vari X-III.

A few dollars more and you get a Black Diamond, far superior to Leupold in my opinion. Any questions get up with member "Guns and Glass", he set me straight.

I have both the mentioned brands, and some mostly Leupold are about the best around, but I don't figure on using my rifles everyday, sp lately I have been looking at 30 mm and 1" 6-24 and 8-32 50 mm scopes.
A dealer friend just picked up a 6-24 42mm dot & crosshair and put it on a Remington stainless 220 swift for groundhogs and IT SHOOTS GREAT !!! Lately Tasco has been making U.S. contract scopes for the SEALS, and frankly Tasco is the largest scope maker in the world.
They have a 10-40-50mm, 1" tube and 6-24 and 8-32 mil dot models I have been looking at.
Now I don't take accuracy lightly, but I have Older Simmons 6-24-50mm and for brightness I'll tell you to look at the bigger tubes and larger objective lenses.
I even wrote the NRA recently in an attempt to find out about scope quality, and their response was price is usually the deciding factor, BUT I think you will find warranties good on Tasco as well. Try

I do have a Tasco .itan-12 30mm with 30-30 recticle I just got done mounting on a Remington 700 BDL and sighted it in for deer. This recticle is supposed to be always centered and after 30 shots I can tell you it is a nail driver at 200 yards. Weaver bases and Kwik-Sight see thru rings are what I used.
I don't believe glass these days has to break you on cost, and am really thinking of selling a few leupolds-variXIII's and lowered powered models and going to different models of other scopes.
Leupolds do hold their value well.

Steve,I have replaced five leupolds with Burris.Guns and Glass taught me a lot about Burris,But hard testing taught me why I wonted four more.I test my scopes under worse conditions than 99.999% of shooters would ever dream of.Was the biggest fan of Leupold,You could be,Till I mounted a Burris. The Burris customer service dept treats you like a king.

I thought this same decision over at length when I bought my .300 Win mag sendero. At first I bought a BSA Catseye 6-24-50 to get by while I checked things out. After looking through every brand of scope, I ended up with a Leupold 6-20-50 Vari X III Long Range Target, with the 3/4 mil dot reticle. I plan to try to shoot this gun for 1000 yard target type games, and after looking at all the others it was it for my eye. I hear people talking about the cheaper scopes delivering the same results as the upper end scopes, but my eyes just don't see it. As for cost, it took me about 5 months to save up the dough to buy the Leupold, because like others I do have a family. I am now doing the same process to get another Leupold Vari X III Long range for a 7 mag sendero I am having reamed to 7mm Ultra Mag. Bottom line, scout around and look through every scope you can, and pick the one that looks best to your eye. Try to find a shop that will let you take it outside at sundown and see what kind of picture it gives in low light conditions. Good luck with your search.

Can't go wrong with either one, I would give Burris the edge. Take a look at www.bearbasin.com for good prices.
