Anyone ever had, or shot a TT-33, I believe it's a 7.62x25. Just curious about them, how they shoot, reliability, durability, any other impressions.

I picked up two russian tokarevs, one was manufactured in 1944 and the other 1953. I think they have been refinished at an arsnel because below the slide release is a rectangle with a diagonal line through it, and they look like new. My question; why is there is no safety on these pistols? I know they were originally manufactured without saftey, but I thought to be importated they had to be equipped with a safety. Did they import some before the saftey requirment?

I have the Polish and the Norinco 54T. 2000rd through the Norinco without a failure. Haven't fired the Polish that much, but seems to be better built. A little tighter. These were realistically designed as disposable guns and the trigger group is integral with the slide rail. On my Norinco, the slide has begun to drag on this part as it will wear, but for $25+- you can get the part which contains the trigger spring, sear, sear spring and drops in for replacement. The Tokarev rd. was supposedly designed to defeat body armor and I have chronographed the Norinco brand at 1750fps. I don't think this is still imported and the available ammo seems to be milder. I would say it is totally reliable for self-defense, but if you are going to do a lot of target shooting you should look for the drop-in parts. They are available from Mark Kubes in Florida and he has a web site. A good price would be around $200 new, surplus. The sights are rudimentary with a narrow front blade that wanders in a wide rear notch.
