Now that I have my Marlin lever stainless 44 mag what is the best way to break in the barrel?

just take it out and shoot it, this isn't a target grade rifle so accuracy isn't an issue (you are not going to get sub .5" groups at 100 yrds no matter what you do) make sure the mechanicals are lightly oiled. and clean the bore after 100 rds or so.

Had a Marlin 375 Winchester and from the bench out to 100 yards had a 3 shot group which was just half-a-bullet hole bigger than the quarter and like a fool I sold it!

I'd say just try to keep the barrel cool. Shoot once, and wait for it to cool down. Run a patch with some oil on it down the bore before you shoot it again. Do this for the first box you shoot. If you want to do a little more breaking in before you shoot alot, then you might do this after every three shots or so for the next few boxes, just keeping the barrel cool, and giving it enough time to cool down. Firelapping couldn't hurt it.

MW is correct that you do not have a target rifle. But I enjoy breaking in a new barrel just like I enjoy cleaning my firearms after each use. I agree with Lee except the firelaping part I would save that for the bold actions. Keep it clean and cool and you will do just fine. JMTCW

Yea MR Lobo's right, don't bother firelapping it.
