Federal XM-193 laquer coated?

I picked up about 500 rds of Federal XM-193 55gr ammo and then later I saw another add for it stating that it was laquer coated for long storage. Is this the same type of laquer coating that is on the wolf ammo? I don't shoot wolf through my ARs because of that and thought buying 'quality' ammo would be the smart thing to do.

    GL -

Not familiar with this, but "XM 193" sure sounds like a military designation. As a collector of US military small arms loadings, I would **LOVE** to see a pic / scan of the box & ammo and likely be very happy to trade you some "premium" ammo for a box or two if it is. You can reach me at tcg25@hotmail.com

It basically is military ammo from the Lake City plant, 2001 production run. I hate to burst your bubble but I don't think it's anything special. I don't remember the company we ordered it from but they advertised in shotgun news, 500 rds/$89.95. Another company was offering it too and their ad was the one that I saw the 'laquer' mentioned in. But, as a collector you probably know more than me. I think I could throw a box of it onto my scanner and see how it comes out if you want me to.

It is ammo manufactured at Lake City under a contract with Federal.
It is 55 grain 5.56 to USGI spec.
The lacquer is to seal the primer and the cases have some kind of waxy coating.
Pics tonight when I get home.

But will this laquer/wax build up during use?

I still need someone to let me know how to post pix here.
Mine is always tumbled before I use it.
And don't let anyone tell you it is dangerous to do that.
My brother never tumbles anything and has not any problems in over 6000 rds of this stuff.

Neat. Thanks GL & cpermd. Just because I collect the stuff doesn't mean I know about every variation out there - always good to learn something new!

To post a picture, you need to have the photos stored on a web server (note: I understand that if they are stored on Yahoo or Geocities, you won't be able to display them here). Then, insert the url between image tags like this (note: you'll need to remove the spaces inside the brackets) -- [ img ]http://www.somanyroads.org/images/photos/pa1.jpg[ /img ]

If you need a server to put the images on, let me know.
