209 all the way! Cheaper, hotter, better! (sometimes easier to find, too!)

Find a buddy with a blackpowder rifle with interchangeable nipples( like a T/C Black Diamond). Then procure a nipple for each type that you want to test. Fire( w/o any powder) the #10 or #11, then the musket, then a 209. You can then see for yourself which is " hotter" I saw some pictures in a T/C catalog a couple of years ago when the 209 craze started, and there was quite a difference in the amount of flame that was produced. And don't forget, you could also look at 209 magnum primers, just to make it interesting. For me, the 209 is alot easier to handle with my big fingers....

Order from hottest to less hot is 209, musket cap, then #11 cap. almost all in lines are going to the 209.

Each brand of 209 primers has a different "heat".
You can see that by checking a shotshell loading manual.
Find several loads that have identicle components with the same amount of powder but different primers. The pressures will not be the same.
The primers that produce the highest pressure probably have the highest "heat".
