9mm ar conversion questions

Picked up a 9mm ar barrel and a drop in mag block. What other parts do i need in 9mm to do a complete conversion? Can i get by with just a 9mm bolt? Or would i need a special hammer, spring, ejection port cover etc? Not sure if a normal upper would work or if it would have to be a 9mm upper. Anyone know for sure or where i can find all the answers?

REPLY:

Yes, all i got was the barrel. Figured an upper would be needed, but do i need the 9mm upper or will a 223 upper work? Also, have a supply of Colt 9mm pre ban mags from a long time ago, so the mag issue should be ok. But the 9mm takes a different mainspring? What about buffer?

You will most likely need a buffer spring, and magazines, and a bolt.

When you say you picked up a barrel, do you mean a barreled upper, or just a barrel? If it is just a barrel, you will ne an upper reciever, with all the trimmings, including , but not limited to G0/NO-GO gauges, for head spacing.

    EDIT

The Bare uppers, are pretty much the same, aside from the A2/A3 styles....flattop or regular A2 carry handle.

IIRC mine had a different hammer also that wasn't compatible with 5.56. YMMV

On the plus side since it's a straight blowback, there are no gas tubes.

Building a 9mm AR is no where as easy as building a std AR

Check and double check any advice you receive here!

Find someone who has actually built one that runs.
