I was given a Rem 700 BDL type synthetic stock, and am considering getting the conversion *'y from Brownell's. The gun is SS, and they list a LA kit in silver for $150. I understand I'll need a different front action screw also.
My question is, has anyone done this, and what are the pros and cons to the job. Thanks!

if i undestand correctly, i do not see any problem. you are correct that you would need the front screw. i would by the set in hex head from brownells when you purchase the floorplate. the advantage is you can easly unload. the cons... some say the ADL is a more ridged stock.

I'm doing one right now to a youth model. Didnt know i needed a different front action screw......that would explain a few things! Putting a short action Knoxx stock on mine, and a little magazine extension that i picked up to make it a 7 shot.

years ago I converted 3 Model 700 ADL I had to BDL . I bought 3 Bdl rifles over time at gun shows that had better than normal wood in their stocks , I then swapped their wood with the ADL rifles I had. My three guns had been Tweaked and were Known Good shooters. I just did not like the Idea of cranking a full magazine of rounds through the action to unload. I also did not like the two position safety that came with the 700's at the time so with a dremel I cut the safety tab that locked the bolt closed when on safe. This allowed me to work the action to remove the chambered round with out placing the safety in the off position. Most people unload their rifle at their car when they quit hunting . This is when it is most likely you are near other people [V][xx(][:(]. I want my guns to be in Safe mode near other people.
