SKS import markings

I have a Chinese SKS That is not marked NORINCO. The only marks on it are the factory 408 marking in the shape of a triangle, the serial number, a large number 7 at the front of the receiver, and the import markings. They are SKS 7.62X39 MADE IN CHINA IC-KNXV-TN. All of the markings are on the left side of the receiver.

Can anybody tell me about this importer?

Who should I list as the maker?

Since you aren't an FFL, & the Chicom SKS is not a C&R, you don't have to "list" anything.

There is no requirement that imported firearms bear a manufacturer's name. For those of us who must enter an SKS in an ATF Bound Book, the country of manufacture is sufficient; i.e., China, Yugoslavia, Russian, Romania, & Albania.

EDIT: That sounds like a great plan. I use a file folder system. The country is really all we can use for SKS's, as they were all made in Communist countries that were not real transparent. Many Commie guns were imported by folks who obfuscated their true identity, using alphabet names & mail drops; apparently ATF didn't care. That makes it easier to avoid warranty & injury claims, I'm guessing.

I keep a list of all my firearms makes models and serial numbers in a secure location just in case my safe and home security system are not enough one day. I want to make sure that they are accurate. Plus I was curious about the importer since I cannot find anything about them on the internet.

As Neal noted, back in the late 80's time frame it seemed that everybody and their BIL. Were bringing in AK's, SKS's and various other guns by the container load to sell them in the States.

I remember going to the large Pomona show in Southern California and seeing boxes of SKS's stacked like cordwood on the floor. The guys selling them didn't even bother setting up tables. They just were sitting on folding chairs selling NIB SKS's @ $100.

This kind of wholesale dumping saturated the market. A lot of the guys who thought they were going to break the bank, by buying SKS's & AK's from China by the container load went broke. I remember buying a NIB Chinese AK back then for $225.

A lot of them were small Mom & Pop outfits that went belly up after just one shipment from China.

Unless you get lucky, it's doubtful that you will ever figure out who "IC" in Knoxville TN is or was?

R-S has it right about the early Chinese SKS boom! I bought my first SKS from a Chinese guy who ran an import/export company on Fair Oaks Ave. in Pasadena, Ca in 1992. In a small warehouse they had pallets upon pallets of rifles they were selling for $99.00, and pallets upon pallets of Chinese ammo for $1.50x20. I walked out of there thinking I could easily take over Belize with that cache!

Theres a company called "Intrac", which has imported Chinese SKS's, they're from Knoxville. This may be the IC stamp?
