Unertl Hawk 4X questions

I need help. I have a Model 70 Win with an Unertl Hawk on it. I have not shot the gun so I don't know if the scope is "on" or not. The adjusting knobs do not have directional arrows on it. IS COUNTERCLOCKWISE FOR "up" AND "right"? What are the screws, adjacent to the adjusting knobs for?? Locking in the settings after you've zeroed? Thanks in advance for your help. The screws adjacent to the adjustment knobs are the mounting screws for the adjustment boss assembly, and do not lock the adjustment screws.
The Hawks did not have a permanently centered reticle, so as you make adjustments to windage and elevation, the reticle moves out of center of your sight picture. Get your scope alignment as close as possible with your mounts, and just fine tune with the adjustment knobs. (which is a good practice even with modern scopes)
Optically, the old Hawks were excellent.

Chris
As perry noted, they are quite competitive scopes as far as glass and ruggedness. They are however, all, mostly or more than 40 years old and if nitrogen filled have lost that and will fog in extreme temp/wet conditions.
