Hello...In the early 70's Fajen imported Santa Barbara Actions & put Star barrels on them. I have one of these in 284 Win. It's the only one I have ever seen...It shoots great...has a nice 24" tapered barrel. The stock is from Fajen...good walnut...but nothing fancy! Would anyone have any idea of its worth? THANKS!!!
Also...These rifles appear in the Gun Digest 1973

In normal times, a no-name sporter with a Spanish Mauser action. Chambered for the 284, wouldn't be the easiest rifle to sell. Nowadays folks seem to be loosing their minds, and running around like heny penny. If you can get some fool to spring $100 for a 550 round brick of .22's, anything is saleable.
A really great member of our boards here broke it to me gently (over the course of several threads I believe) that the Santa Barbara actions, while full of romance of being some of the last M-98 actions produced, are really not that well finished out on the inside. They do their duty, but not as well as some of more famous versions such as the 1909 Argentino and Late model 1910 Mexican Small rings (not to dis the Swede '96 either). They are just not nearly as smooth. But still, they function as well as any other '98 out there when it really comes down to what they do best.
As far as that particular caliber goes, and remember I'm not a collector, the foreign rifles chambered in that fine cartridge aren't given the same consideration as domestic "limited edition" type rifles that always seem to bring so much for their rarity. Most people that I've talked to don't seem to give a hoot about them. Odd chambered M-98's of any make seem to be given the status of of a customized Mauser and therefore have no known father. It's really sad as a lot of the customized Mausers are really great rifles. But, without a provenance of history behind them, they seem to get the * in the woodpile treatment. Even though she might've just won all the field trials and hunting tests.
The last price I saw a nice Santa Barbara go for was $550. Most of the rest were from between $350-$450.
