Gun Pricing

I'm starting to collect old Colt revolvers. What is the best guide for pricing to make sure I'm not paying too much for a certain gun.
I.E. If I wanted to buy an 1851 Colt Revolver how would I go about valuing this certain firearm?

I would suggest going to as many gun shows as possible and asking tons of questions. Try to familiarize yourself with just one or two models at first. You will need to learn how to look for originality, original finish, mixed parts, cut barrels, etc!
Good luck,

You need to read all of the price guides and study all of the Colt books. Keep in mind price guides are just that. A guide. Many times they are off, WAY off! I think following auctions right here on GB is a great source of information. Knowledge is the key!
