I bought a Colt AR-15 A2 HBAR sporter in 223.It has a flash hider and came with 6 hi cap mags and an assault bag, cleaning kit, manual and some extras.Gun is super nice and functions very well. Ive surfed AR15.com to see when the gun was made but havent had any luck. The serial#SP2435XX in case anyone has a book handy or knows or can point me in a direction.Well I showed it to my neighbor and he liked it and wanted to get one also.A couple days later,Knock, knock on the door and it him holding up his new gun.Smiling ear to ear.I took the gun in my hand and it didnt feel rite. It was really lite and looked almost like a toy.He said he paid $950 for it. It looked shiny and new but not the same as mine. Did Colt shrink their guns?KIDDAlso is this a keeper or should I look for a particular model? Thanks[This message has been edited by COWBOYKIDD (edited 12-17-2001).]

Not exactly.Colt has offered numerous models with different barrel lengths and weights. Standard barrel lengths are 16" and 20". Weights have varied slightly with the transition to new generations. Without knowing which model your friend bought, or your exact model, we can only guess as to why the perceived difference. Of course, the "HB" in "HBAR" means "heavy barrel", so that may help explain it.Neal

Your rifle was made during the 1986-1991 time frame, so it is a pre-ban. It should have a 20" barrel with 1:7" rifling (you will get best accuracy with SS109 ball ammo.) Neal
