SKS JAMS

I have an sks, made in china. Pre ban, new. I changed the original 10 round mag. to a 20 round fixed mag. I was getting jams at about every 8 shots. I began hitting the butt of the rifle (to set the rounds rearword in the mag.) and this helped a lot. However, I still get a jam once in 12 rounds or so. Should I go back to the 10 rounder or is there a cure for this? I sure like shooting and not having to stop and reload. Don't worry- it's leagle here in Texas. I also notice that by tapping on the mags. on the semi-autos and setting the rounds "in"- I never get jams anymore. Thanks for any help!

The SKS in it's original form is an almost perfect weapon. I have had dozens and shot ammo by the tin. I have never had an SKS to jam unless I had tried to put an aftermarket type mag in it. Go back to the 10rnd mag and your problems will be over. Or you can try to adjust your 20rnd to fit your gun, but this can be tricky and could ruin your mag completely. Another option is to get one of the SKS carbines that was made to accept AK mags. I have one of these and like it a lot, AK mags are completely reliable and so is the SKS, great combination.

Daddo, I too wanted the 20rd on my sks, lucky the experts set me straight before I invested. Soleservivor, I'm currently saving my spare change to add a russian sks to my collection, I've herd of these sks's wich were made to accept ak mags, but which sks were they, which county made them and what years, I've never seen one. Thanks for the free info.

What the heck- I don't need a 20 rounder- I will install the 10 rounder and leave all alone. Thanks for your time -and for the input and have a great day! "Ten rounds short of 20"

Just-shoot.......the gun you are talking about is called an SKS type 63. They were made by the chinese. They are rare breeds and most people that have them will not sell. I run into people from time to time that have them, but they are not interested in even hearing an offer. I don't blame them.

Daddo, how much you want for the 20rnd-er. I don't worry too much about the BS surrounding the Brady where the SKS in concerned. The laws on the SKS are vague at best, you are in the grey area with these. They are all pre-ban!!!!! therefore........!!! If you have the bayo. lug, you can have the clips, but not a folding stock also. Keep the folding pin at home and install it later, if needed. You have an arguable case due to the fact that they are preban guns and were stopped being imported to comply.
