I have a Series 70 that I bought new. It's still in great shape, as it has spent most of it's life in the night stand, next to my bed. In your honest opinion, would I be better off spending money to "accurize" this Series 70... or just go out and buy a new Gold Cup?Any opinions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks ~Bob

I think you should buy the Gold Cup and send me that old beater for proper disposal ;-).

Why is the accuracy unsatisfactory now? What level of accuracy are you seeking? If you want a target gun, buy a target gun. My secretary just bought a new Colt Gold Cup Trophy, and I must say, I am extremely impressed. The quality is first rate and it seems very tight. I expect it to be a very accurate gun. Buy something like that if you want more than service pistol accuracy. However, if you just want to tinker, sell the old GM and buy a new base Colt pistol and start there. That way, the the old GM will be preserved in its original condition (now getting to be a bit collectable), and you can use the profit to buy all the accessories to put on the new pistol.

I own a series 70 and I wouldn't change a thing on it. I bought it brand new in 1981 and it has never never never jammed on me. I still have the original barrel and it will still shoot X's out of any target. It will also hit a torso target every time at 100 yards. I have also seen a man use it to shoot a hole the size of the inside of a paper towel holder at 30feet with 28 shots. Now if you need more accuracy than that you need to get something else.

I am looking for something in a target gun in a .45 auto.I have no problems with the way my GM operates. Its always performed perfectly, with no jams. I don't have any problems "hitting" targets... I just have a problem "grouping" shots. To be honest with you guys... I'm just looking for an excuse to buy a Gold Cup! I've always wanted one... and I think I'm trying to talk myself into getting one! ha!If I can just get past my "live-in" finacial advisor!!! ha!And JudgeColt... thanks for the comments on your secretarys new GC Trophy, That's exactly what I'm looking for!!Thanks to all ~Bob

Now that 629 has expressed an interest in the Gold Cup, I want to expand a bit on the package I gave Joanne as an achievement award. As some may know, I have been critical of Colt for the last decade or so. The plastic parts on the GM were the last straw. I just could not believe using a plastic main spring housing saved enough money to justify such heresy.I am pleased to report that this GCT has no plastic parts on it. The main spring housing is finely checkered stainless steel. It even came with two 8-round magazines and two recoil springs, plus a bushing wrench and screwdriver. The edges are all as knife sharp as they were in the old days. The slide finish is super fine like the old days. It is all packed in the now typical blue case, along with a cable lock. The Trophy differs from the "regular" Gold Cup in that it has a round top slide, dovetail front sight and a BoMar rear sight. The trigger is very good in this day and age of product liability, much lighter than I expected. I expect it to get even better with some use. The trigger is a lightweight aluminum Videki Match Trigger. I really like this gun and I hope I get to shoot it soon! These GCT pistols are acarce, but I might be able to get another one if interested.[This message has been edited by JudgeColt (edited 12-19-2001).]

To quote S&W 629: "To be honest with you guys... I'm just looking for an excuse to buy a Gold Cup! I've always wanted one... and I think I'm trying to talk myself into getting one! ha!"There should NEVER be a time where one needs to look for an excuse to buy a gun Buy the gun now, think of the "excuse" later.
