Gentlemen, have read the discussion on the above subject and would like to add a few comments. The guns were made in the early 90's, around 91-92 and maybe a liitle longer. I sold quite a few of them, they were a standard production item. They did have the script writing on the right side of the barrel saying Featherweight, and had the regular sporter style stock. They were made in 22-250, 243, 308, 270, 30-06, 7mm Rem. Mag. and 300 Win. Mag. The magnums had 24" sporter contour barrels and the same stock. Later, after they came out with the Classic action, they made a Classic FWT. All-Terrain with a FWt. style synthetic stock. Hope this info helps. James G. Mothes.

I've been a Winchester dealer since about 1982, and I've stocked and sold quite a few myself.

25-06, maybe you can answer a question for me....I bought a nice, used stainless Model 70 a few months ago (Classic, laminated stock) in 300 WM with the BOSS system."Suggested" BOSS settings for this caliber list only 180 & 200gn bullets; can I use the settings for, say, .308 165gn for a starting point when reloading with this bullet weight? Does the bullet length affect the useability of the suggested settings for 200gn in 300WM if I'm using Barnes Solid Copper bullets? They're longer than similar 200's what with copper's lower density.

Another question. I have a unfired m70 heavy barrel. The action is blue but the barrel is a sliver color. Looks kinda like a matte finish. The barrel does not say stainless. Did this come this was since it it unfired or ... well any ideas?
