ok....i have a mini-14 (not the ranch)....its basically your all-around assult rifle....folding stock, high caps yada yada...and no scope...i was thinking of accurizing my 10/22 but would like more range and power....at this point i have no interest or the money to buy another rifle i.e. AR-15....so its either this or nothing.....im looking to be able to nail a coffee can sized targets anywhere from 300-500 yards (optimally)...i can get a pretty decent scope system going for $150....6-24X40mm/B-square mount...but i need help in the barrel area.....any suggestions......i would like to install it myself (if possible). i would also like to keep the existing stock and buy a barrel that has a standard sized barrel with the bull end on it....if ya know what i mean......willing to go $150-200 max.any suggestions? Thanks

You must be a gluton for punishment - but if you want to spend money "accurizing" a Mini there are people who can help and will happily take your money. They promise sub-moa accuracy from the mini-14/mini-30. Accuracy Rifle System, Odessa, Texas 915-362-6840 http://www.mini-14.net/ Another one is http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/

Yep, by the time you get done you could have bought a nice AR type rifle. I went down this path once with a friend, things that made a big difference in the mini are a trigger job and over travel stop. Try those, you won't be out a wad of cash and you might like the results.

Don't get a b-sqaure mount, if you want to hold a zero. Get a reciever mount either a leupold or weaver type that would have to be drilled and tapped into the reciever itself. The ones that slide into that little side thing suck. Two inexpensive things that make a differencfe to accurize your gun is:1) Trigger job2) Firelap BoreThe other thing you can do is start handloading, find a combination of bullet and powder your gun seems to like then work on bullet seating depth.
