I picked up a new Tikka All Weather .308 rifle yesterday. I am trying to find ringmounts for this rifle other than a Tikka or Sako product($$$$). Are the ringmounts for a Tikka and a Sako the same thing depite having a different product number in aftermarket catalogues? This is for a new rifle with the dovetail on top? Can anybody offer reccomendation as to what brand I should buy?

To answer your question about the dovetail, no, the Sako and the Tikka are NOT the same dovetail. I found this out the hard way, by trying to put Sako rings on the Tikka. It just won't fit. There are a several alternatives: (1)Weaver lists base #'s 65 and 67 as the front and rear bases, then you can use standard Weaver style rings. (2)Use the Millet rings mentioned in the previous response. (3)I've got the best Tikka mount available out there, bar non. It is made by Conetrol, If you're not familiar with their rings & mounts, visit www.conetrol.com. This is the best mounting system I've seen. I've got the the whole setup, high rings and bases, to mount any scope up to 50mm. Unfortunately I've had to take them off, they're made of steel. I'm having to switch to the lighter Weaver system (aluminum) to make weight in Hunter Class Silhouette. If interested I can send you pix.
