I am turning 17, and i think the Marlin336C is a nice gun. Everyone i know has a bolt action and i don't want a bolt action. The lever i think is bad *. I plan to go white tale deer hunting soon and bears and hogs. I live in Miami,Florida. Is this the right gun for me. Is it powerful enough for me?? Also, should i get it in .30-30 or in .35 rem ?? I was thinking about getting .35 rem because it is more powerful. Should I ?

In the "Big Bend" area, there are hogs aplenty and to spare. I hope that is true of some of the costal marshes near you. A .35 Remington is better medicine for them than the 30-30.I sure hope that the "bear" hunting is in some other state than Florida. You shoot a bear in this state and the enforcement officers catch you, you have a very big problem.

Get the .35. You'll be alot happier with it than a 30-30. (There is no replacement for displacement, this holds true with car engines and guns!)

I have several Marlin .30-30's & .35Rem's, hunted with them for years...if you're going to choose one, by all means get the .35Rem.The normal cartridge for it is a 200grain RN...will cover deer, hogs, bear, etc;(Round Nose or Flat Nose cartridges are required in tubular magazines)And if you ever get into reloading, the Speer 180 grain FN(flat nose) bullet is simply an outstanding deer cartridge...(kind of like a .30-30 magnum) Enjoy !
