Hi,I have a Remington Mdl. 700 ML in 50 cal. I have been thinking about putting a Leupold VxII 3x9x40 scope on it. I just had a thought about the soap and water cleaning needed on a black powder and how that might impact the scope. Is there good scope mounts where I could take off the scope durring the cleaning process then re-mount it without loosing my sighting on the scope, or do people wrap the scope to keep it dry durring the cleaning? Please advise.

I don't clean with soap and water, but Dave Talley (Telley Manufacturing) makes a mount with quick detach levers.

I looked for Talley and could not find anything on the net. But if you would tell me how you clean the barrel on your black powder without damaging the scope it would be great. Thanks[This message has been edited by Mr. Lobo (edited 12-29-2001).]

I bought a Austin & Halleck muzzleloader. If i'm right the model 700ML & the other inlines are about the same in cleaning.I use Birchwood-Casey #77 Blackpowder solvent.I remove the breech plug & run wet patches through the barrel followed by dry ones & repeat till clean. You don't even come close to your scope.Make sure after cleaning you apply breech grease to the breech plug or it will seize. If you just want the option of removing your scope try LEUPOLD Quick release mounts & Quick release rings.I had to mount the stanard mount & rings because they don't make the Quick release mounts & rings to fit my muzzleloader.

My in line is a TC Black Diamond. I also remove the breech plug to clean, put in a Stoney Point sleeve and clean as I would a centerfire using either TC's or Cabela's cleaners. Dave Talley is in Glenrock, Wyoming. I don't have the number here, but it is Talley Mfg. Co. and information will have it. I would dig it up for you, but will be gone all next week. Talley rings may well be the strongest rings made.

you will need to clean the under side of the scope on the 700ml due to some amount residue that appears when you fire it. I just use the same solvent on my scope as I clean the 700ml with. You just have to resolve yourself to the fact that it is going to happen. I don't trust tip-off mounts so I don't own a single pair.

i own a knight muzzleloader use mounts from cabelas. they are dovetailed and pinned also. i have cleaned the gun about 2 dozen times removing scope each time and it always goes back to zero. first few times i checked it with a bore scope to make sure. these are aluminum mounts which i do not like but they do work. do not remember the order no.
