p-229 replacement barrel

I just reciently purschased a SIG P-229 in a .40 caliber. I would like to get a .357 sig barrel for the pistol. I would like to know what barrels other members have used and what they think of them. Thanks

I just bought a Sig factory barrel in .357 Sig. I paid $150+ tax at a gun show. It shoots great. Right after I walked away I found extended/compensated/stainless barrels for $169. Don't know the brand but I may have chosen one of them. Anyway, the factory barrel is very accurate and functions perfectly.[This message has been edited by Vortech347 (edited 02-03-2002).]

I bought a factory .357 Sig barrel for my 229 at a gunshow a few years ago for $125 changed it in around 30 seconds and it shoots as well as the .40, I can't speak for the barrels at federal arms but I haven't heard anything bad about them, I do knoe their customer service is very good, good luck..

Bought a .40 cal barrel for my P229 from Olympic Arms. It didn't fit. They returned it to me after having "fixed" it. It still didn't fit. They claimed a defect in my pistol, but I owned two P229s and the barrels from Sig interchanged nicely, they were just both the same caliber. The people at Olympic Arms thought they did better work on Sig pistols than Sig. I'll never do business with them again.

I'd stick with factory barrels, unless you know for a fact that the barrel your purchasing is a high quality aftermarket barrel made by a reputable company and fitted by a competent gunsmith.One thing I've learned about "Drop-In" is that nothing ever is if its actually worth a damn...
