Was just wondering what the experts thought about these two shotguns. I find that they are similar in price but wanted to know which one is the better shotgun for ducks and doves?? Thanks for the advice,Jay

Jay, I own both shotguns. Frankly, the 11-87 doesn't compare to the AL 390. My Beretta has been severely abused duck hunting. From breaking ice, being use as a paddle, shovel, and even worse without ever failing to function perfectly. The 11-87 is in my closet now because of poor performance in the field. Most all of my hunting companions have switched to Beretta 390's after seeing the performance of mine, and poor performance of their 11-87's. Also, I would encourage you to get the camo dipped Beretta. No possibility of rust, scratching, etc. Furthermore, the Beretta functions flawlessly with light load shells. The 11-87 also has problems with this. Hope this helps you make your decision. Let me know how it turns out.

Jay, I do not have an 11-87, but do have a 380 and it has been flawless. Mine has a matte finnish and i replaced the nice wood with black syn from Beretta. It's very easy to maintain in waterfowl environment.

Did you consider a benelli? Recoil operated and no gas ports. I have one in realtree camo and use it for ducks and geese. No malfunctions after a few cases of shells and 3 seasons.

ditto on the benelli. If you don't want to spend that much, then the beretta is the better choice.

TRUST ME!! GET THE BENELLI. After sending my 11-87 back to the factory several times, and many months later, the guy at Remington told me they try to make the 11-87 for all hunters, and if you only shoot dove and quail, like I do, the gas system is designed for magnum loads and has a problem with light loads.Traded in the new gun they finally sent me for a new Benelli and have shot SEVERAL cases of #8 loads with NO failures. Plus, I only have to take it apart and clean it once a year, even when it doesn't need it. No gas means no crud buildup. You will LOVE the Benelli. This is not just my experience, but from MANY others who use the same gun.

Harleeman, If you will drive to Mississippi, I would practically give you the 11-87. I also have a couple of vintage Harleys you can take back with you.As for the Benelli's.......try shooting light field loads in this gun. I have never seen a benelli that will function properly with any consistancy. The benelli, however, would be my second choice for an all-around auto shotgun. However, pretty pricey for what you are getting.

I've never owned a 390, but as for an 11-87, don't waste your time or money. By today's shotgunning standards, it is grossly outdated. I finally got fed up with mine and bought a Benelli.Three of us duck hunted Kodiak island last year, rain and snow most of the time, three Benelli's and NOT ONE missed shot due to malfunctions.I could write pages about what is wrong with an 11-87. Heavy, bulbous forend, dirty gas system, prone to rusting under the best care, etc, etc. I know, I duck hunted the salt marshes on NJ for one with 10 years.

how about this, I took my benelli to Argentina, shot over 4000rnds through it in 3 days. #7 1/2 shot low brass, not one single failure to feed/fire/eject. Got it so hot, you could smell the wood on the stock starting to almost burn. It wasn't really in need of cleaning when I got home either, although I did anyway.By the way, dove hunters, check out Argentina dove hunts. They are getting cheaper all the time.

my second Argentina gun was a 390 beretta. It also did not foul or fail one single time. GOOD CHOICE. If yours doesn't have the fiber optic sight bead, call beretta and tell them yours fell off brand new and ask them to send you the orange one as a replacement. They will send it for free.
