AK-47 what do I need to look for?

I am interested in buying an AK-47. I want tonknow what I need to look for and what questions I need to have answered before buying. Such as; what does having a milled reciever mean? Does it matter what country it came from? Should it be all original parts from that country, or is a rebuild with American parts ok? And any other tidbits I should know will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time on this matter.

For the answer to your question , I would go to the gun and game forums There they have designated topic forums and they have an AK forum

I'm not sure if you know the basics of AK's or not, so here's a crash course. I'm no pro, but here's what I do know. The only "real" AK's are preban ones made in the Soviet Union. Fully auto, muzzle brake, bayonet lug, etc. More than likely you will be getting an "SAR" or "semi-auto-rifle" The SAR-1 is the standard 7.69x39 rifle, and the SAR-2 is the NATO 5.65.To answer your first question, the difference between milled and stamped recievers are as follows...The milled recievers are cut from one hunk of metal. They basically just take one piece of metal and cut space out for the parts to fit. STRONG, but heavy. The stamped recievers are put together. They are lighter, not as strong, but good nonetheless. The only way the extra strength would make that much a difference is if you run it over with your car. Most recievers are stamped, so don't worry about it.How much do you want to spend? If you have a big budget, go for the Russian or Chinese model. From what I hear, they're the best. The Romanian is a distant third, but is still a great gun. From my understanding all imported AK's have enough American parts intalled to be considered legal. I don't think it makes a diffence other than being politically correct. They have gone up in price lately. I got mine (Romanian SAR-1, imported by Century Arms) for $280. Now i see them for almost $400. Anything else?
