.22 Rifle

I am stuck on what to buy for a .22. I saw the posts in the general forum. I have narrowed it down between the Marlin 60, Ruger 10/22, and Remington Nylon 66. I plan on leaving the rifles original and MAYBE adding a scope later. I would use it for plinking, chipmunks, squirrels, and other small game. Any thoughts???

I have a Marlin Glenfield Mod. 60 .22 rifle. What kind of scope mount do I need to mount my bushnell scope? I bought 1" see thru mounting rings, but they don't seem to fit on the .22.

Consider a +95% preowned browing, remington or marlin, plus accressories like hearing/eye protection, case, cleaning kit and hunter Ed class. Then in a few years the extra money can go to a .243 of shootgun....just a thought.

I picked up a CZ 452 last summer for $210.00 I love the thing. If you get one spend the extra couple dollars and get the single shot adaptor. Mainly because it's such a pain to stop and reload the magazine every 5 shots when you are shooting off the bench. Also if you plan on scoping it buy the CZ rings. I'm pretty sure the CZ reciever grooves are metric not the U.S. standard 3/8". I'm leaving mine iron sighted. It shoots 1" 50yd groups all day long with cheap ammo and it puts good ammo into even smaller groups.WOODS

I'd recommend getting him and Winchester Model 9422 used or new. Lever action guns cannot be beat for fun, and they are plenty accurate for what he needs as a starter.I'd suggested the hunter safety classes along with a lot of hunter safety demonstration from Dad.

Look at what Marlin has to offer. Excellent value, many models from bolt, lever, and semi-auto, and they are accurate. There are many model 60s available for under $100, if you want a semi-auto. I'd go with one of the excellent bolt actions and let him use it in a single shot mode until you are comfortable.

The CZ's are far and away the best and most accurate bolt .22 for the money. Buy it with confidence.A bolt will also teach him fire or 1st shot control

I like how the marlins action stays 1/2 open after the last round. Big safty feature for young shooters.

i'd stick with a bolt for a 1st gun because it's slower to shootand should hold up longer with less problems. he will have to think about the shot. a semi-auto is much too fast for a youngster's 1st gun...just my 2 cents

I shot a CZ semi-auto last year ... I'm a lefty and the face full of crap on every shot was the pits and the slow action was not so great either. I'd stay away from that rifle.

I bought both of my boys the CZ you are thinking about getting. They have scoped the rifles and been using them for about two years now. They both can hit 2" bottle caps at 100 yards all day long. We are very happy with the bolt action CZ and I would recommend it.

P.S. I should add that my first rifle was a used Marlin model 99 (now known as the model 60 - not the M1 Carbine style) that my Dad got me when I was 13. 35 years later, I still have that rifle and it shoots as well as my factory 10/22. Only repairs have been a new buffer block (a plastic block that is in the receiver) that the local gunsmith pulled from an "old parts" bin. Cost was $10 for labor. They are kinda like the Enegerizer bunny - they just keep on shooting.I've owned several 10/22s, a 77/22, an old Marlin 39, and a few other 22s. I'll always keep my Marlin 60 and a 10/22 around.
