Plating blued gun parts- info please

Looked at a John Wayne Comm and the reciever, lever, butt plate and barrel band were all pewter plated. How difficult would this be to do to a blued rifle? Anyone have a ballpark price on what it would cost? Thanks.

Pewter is an amalgam; i.e., it is a mixture of base metals. You can't plate it onto gun parts, and is so soft you wouldn't want to.The basic plating process is cheap. The expensive part is labor required to completely disassemble the gun, prepare the surface, reassemble the gun, and carefully inspect and test for proper function. It should only be done by an expert. I suggest that you talk to Rosemary at Pittsburgh Handgun, 1330 Center Ave., Pittsburg, PA, 412-766-6100. Colt refers plating requests to them.Neal
