Need your user comments on the DPMS Lo Pro flat top with bull barrel. I'm thinking about getting one and it doesn't seem too bad of a deal at $700. I did notice that there was no dust cover or forward assist. I also noticed the reciever looks thicker than other AR types.

What optics did you use?

What ammo did it like? (Weight and Brand)
Accuracy?
Trigger Pull?
Reliability?
Tightness?

    R,

I've only seen the rifle you mentioned in the Shotgun News, it does look interesting.

Olympic Arms has a very similar model, the PCR-16 "Les Horten" I believe it is called. It does have the dust cover and forward assist.

I've been considering this Oly model since I have an OLY PCR4 and have been very happy with it.

    Regards,
    Brisco

Friend of mine bought one and really liked it. His kid bought one too.

I couldn't wait. I traded one of my bolt action 223's (Ruger 77 SS) in on the DPMS Lo Pro. Comes with two mags. I can't wait to shoot it. Not sure what optics to use, I'll dig trough my stash this afternoon and if I don't find anything usefull, I guess I'll have to get new optics for it.

The only thing I don't like is that there are NO open sights whatsoever. I saw another gun with a removable handle but the front sight was not removable which made optics tricky. Later on I might see if a front sight or accessory mount can be added to the front.

Also, for you DPMS users, there was a yellow warning sheet telling you what ammo they recommend NOT to shoot. Is this just a CMA (cover my a..) for the company or does the ammo they list really not work or cause damage to the gun? What ammo can you shoot? The only thing that comes to mind is yellow box UMC or Federal?

I think that it is just a CMA. The guy I know who bought one uses his reloads in it. Actually, if you think about it, Who owns an ar and DOES'NT reload for it or have a buddy to reload for them.

I would think that if you are concerned, any major ammo manuf. would work ok. Federal, Winchester, Black Hills Ammo, etc...

I like mine. If you break the barrel in the way DPMS recommends (sort of a p.i.t.a.), you can get good accuracy. I use a red-dot sight on mine, am able to make consistent .5 MOA groups at 100 yds. Haven't used any factory ammo,though- can't verify any of that info.

I've got the Lo-pro classic and love it. It seems to like Rem fact 55 psp & 62 HPBT well enough, about 3/4 inch at 100. It's still in the project stage; I've got a 4x12 Tasco on it (please don't laugh) while I look for a permanent scope, maybe a big Leupold or Burris. Get a couple of steel mags; one of the plastic one's broke at about 60 rounds. The only complaint I have is that mine must have a really tight chamber; it won't chamber reloads even with small base dies, I'm now looking for an ultra-small base sizer. I know I can get it to 0.5" if I can get reloads going thru it. Incidentally, I found it at a local store 6 weeks ago for last year's MSRP of $ 650 and just told them to wrap it up.

Word of caution- I also tried a Del-Ton 7.62 upper on it that was a total piece of junk. The only good thing I can say about it is that they didn't argue about refunding my money.

Shot it this weekend. All I had available to me was a BSA Red Dot 30 to put on it. I took it to the range and at dialed it in for good accuracy. I did try and do the recommened break in, shoot, clean, shoot, clean, shoot, clean, but only made it 12 rounds. The red dot sat a littl low for me, so the next day I mounted a 3.5x-10x scope on it with high rings. I got 1" groups or better in the wind with Rem UMC 55gr ammo. I'll wait for a calmer wind day to try out diff ammo and put it on good sand bags.

Thinkig about a trigger job. Is this a gunsmith only job, or does the DPMS have an adjustable trigger?
