Try a couple of brands and/or bullet weights. This cartridge at the range you stated will handle deer fine. Bullets in the 130-140 grain range are fine.

If you're using factory loads, try thr 125 Nosler Partition. If your reloading it, try the 120 Barnes X.

How would you rather die, 10,000 foot pounds of muzzle energy in the BUTT or a sharp knife in the HEART?

My brother has a 260 rem, i have shot it and liked it very much. a accurate chambering also.
it would easly handle a deer at 400 yds.
I reloaded some for my brother with 140 gr speers, they shot right at 3/4" group at 100 yds off the hood of my pickup

I would wager that you will find the Remington Cor-Lokt bullets will group well. they are inexpensive and I have found them to be accurate.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.
