I have a 6.5-284 wildcat with a 28" brl 1/10 twist. I would appreciate some advice on some rel.imfo. using a 142 grn.hpbt matchking bullet.

    cjgun,

The Shilen site only has bullet weight recommendations for 8 and 9 twists for the 6.5's and the 9 twist says "for bullet weights up to 130 grains". So from this you might deduce that you could use "up to 120 grain" although I don't have written proof. There is a new 6.5 barrel listed on a barrel makers site that is a 1:10 so you could contact him and ask what he recommends. Lapua makes some great target bullets in 108 and 123 grains. My 6.5's have twists 7, 7.5, 8, 8.25, 8.5 and 9.

I beleive your weight is too heavy. I am using 142 match kings for 1:8 twist in a 6.5-06 ackley. My experience is that the imr4350 has been my most accurate powder, although I am far from the best recipe. I currently have an open invitation of "for sale" on that rifle. so If I figure up the best recipe, I will let you know what it was.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.
