The AR-15 was Designed by Eugene Stoner, Robert Fremont and Jim Sullivan for "Armalite", which was a division of Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corp. in Costa Mesa California. They were contracted by the United States Army Continental Command. Colt bought the rights from Armalite in 1959 for $75,000.00 and a 4.5% royalty. They began production and re-named the weapon the M16. The "M16" was also manufactured by GM and Harrington Richardson in the late 60's and early 70's. Now, the pattent that colt bought has run out and the "AR15" is produced by many manufacturers. The United States Government has had contracts with many of these companies to produce parts and weapons. Bushmaster is one such company. I was stationed in korea from 1986 to 1988 on the DMZ and was issued a Bushmaster version of the M16. I now own a post ban Bushmaster H-Bar AR15 and would recommend it highly. I hope this clarifies some of your questions and concerns. Get a Bushmaster, you'll love it.....
When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....
