I would step out on a limb and say the everlasting Colt AR15, Both Bushmaster and Armalite. Now if you want to spend the money go with a Wilson.

AR-15 is a registered trademark of Colt. Despite what was stated on another similar closed post about the AR-15 being "invented" by Eugene Stoner and two other designers, the AR-15 designation came over from ArmaLite when Colt bought the rights to it. Also contrary to the other post, the M16 was not Colt's version of the AR-15. The original Colt AR-15 was a select-fire rifle. The M16 came about when the military began asking for changes in the select-fire AR-15 after it was fielded in early Viet Nam on a limited basis.

If the poster wants an actual AR-15 as stated, it will have to be a pre-ban Colt, but it will be very difficult to find one for $700-800. The similar rifles offered under other names by other manufacturers can be found in post-ban configuration in the price range mentioned.
