Can any body tell me about this pistol. I am looking at it for target and a side arm for a ranch in Colorado. The accuracy, is it able to dispatch the occasional varmit or possibly even ward of predator attacks? What is the realiablity like and the over all fun of shooting this pistol? thank you very much for your consideration......quick

Yes the HK USP ( universal self loading pistol) is of excellant value very reliable U.S. special forces all over the world are depending on them now. The gun is pleasant to shoot. As for dispatching a wild animal that depends on caliber, you can choose three calibers. A 9mm,.40 auto or a ,45acp. Any of them are well worthy of self defense carry. But the 9mm should do the job.

    Good Luck.

Top quality gun. I have one of the 45 compacts and really like it. If the predators that need warding off are large and dangerous I think that I would stick with large caliber revolver. Never met a predator(2 or 4 legged)that was intimidated by the presence of a handgun. Guess you can tell I am not a big proponent of the 9mm.

I would say that there is no better gun than an HK. I own a couple and love them all. mp5's sp89/s socom's, usp's. they're all great and extremely reliable. I had never once had one fail on me. the USP is a great choice, lightweight, and concealable. also has hi caps too for the 9's. I say get it, and cherish it. feels great to shoot as 9's od==don't have much recoil anyway.

I could not agree with Kulijo2 more! H&K in my opinion is one of (if not the) best firarms manufacturers in modern times. The USP series is gret. I owned a USP45 once....it was my first handgun...I am currently looking for a USP45 Tactical....however you may want to do what I am doing. HK is releasing a new pistol on the USA market. This is what I have heard anyway....I cant seem to find any validation to this rumor.....however if they are releasing the p2000, it may be worth it to wait a bit and see how it preforms before spending a chunk of money on a USP. As for the 9mm....I am not a fan of it...I prefer a good .45acp or .40sw...9mm has a problem with overpenitration...its a high-power syringe in my opinion.

The problem with many handgun rounds is a lack of penetration, not over penetration. If the bullet does not go deep enough, the wound impact is likely to be insufficient to stop the perp. This was demonstrated in the infamous FBI Miami shootout. There are plenty of 9mm rounds that offer good penetration and expansion.
