Receiving shipped ammo

I hate to throw out another 'shipping ammo' question but I at least did a little looking before just asking. Anyway, when getting ammo shipped to you via UPS does somebody have to be at the address to sign for it or can they leave it on the door step if no one is home?

I searched old posts, check UPS website, and the GB shipping page and couldn't find my answer. I recently had to get a new DL so I had the DMV switch my address from my PO box to my street address.

BTW, I also called the UPS hazmat hotline to ask this, thinking ammo would be considered hazmat. The lady told me that she didn't 'think' someone would have to be there to sign for it. And she added that if ammo was shipped by ground they didn't consider it hazmat.

Small arms ammunition is regulated as ORM-D (Other Regulated Material). Whether following the rules or not, I've had many ORM-D packages left without signature.

In most cases when you buy ammo it is a courtesy for the phone rep to ask you if you would like for an adult to sign for your shipment. That of course is entirely up to you. If you deal with a company for a while they usually dont even ask you for they have your previous records on file. Hope this helps.

    Good Luck.

GL, I oughta know the answer, but I don't. The only times in 30+ years I've needed to sign for it was when the shipper required it. The only time any customer has needed to sign for it has been when the carrier took it upon themselves to require it - possibly by state or local regulation. From this, in the absence of instructions one way or the other, I infer (fancy word for guess ) it depends on the locality &/or the driver.
