I have a Colt 1911 A1 that seems to check out for all the correct markings that are correct for the 1942 manufacture date indicated by the serial number. However, there is a "55" stamped on the upper front on the right side of the trigger guard. I cannot find reference to a mark in this location anywhere. Can anyone tell me what it means?

Guy at the range showed me a 1911 A1. Frame serial # fits into the Remington Rand range in the 1940's. Has an early Colt slide. Slide heavily buffed, frame not as bad. Restamped SA. Reblued, not original Parkerizing.

Question: Barrel has 8-10 lands and 8-10 grooves. What was std. issue rifling? What is this barrel?

I came across a Colt 1911 A1, ser. no.243XXXX w/5 clips and the original issue box that it came in. It is in extemely nice condition. I'm interested in its value. Any help will be appreciated.

The various little markings on the trigger guard are manufacturers inspection marks. They will be completely parkerized within the markings, indicating they were stamped before the finish was applied to the gun.
