.280 remington

any overall opinions of this caliber. and is $500 a good buy for a remington mdl 700 with wood stock {bdl} in .280 remington with a 3x9x40 "whitetail" simmons scope? the rifle is about 95% at worst.

    Absolutely worth the money,its an outstanding rifle, and as for the .280rem, its suitable for nearly all American game. The .280 is just a 30-06 case necked down to .28 caliber or should I say 7mm. The .280 is very accurate and suitable for most Big Game within a reasonable range, and the most important thing is good old fashioned shot placement. I hope you like your new prize.

    I have 2 .280s - a single and a bolt action. $500.00 is very reasonable for the rifle - maybe a better scope though...

    great round and a fair price on the gun. i have a m700 mtn. rifle with 2X7 nikon and would't take anything for it......

    I think you can see a pattern developing reguarding the 700 remingtons. NUFF SAID. Buy it and you too will be a beleiver.

    A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

    The .280 is virtually indistinguishable from the .270. A fine caliber, a fine rifle, a junk scope. See if you can buy the rifle without the scope.

    I have used my .280 remington "classic" for antelope, whitetails, and elk. It is a good "one gun" to own, it can do it all.
